The air is FINALLY a little crisp and the aroma of pumpkin spice lattes can be smelled around every street corner. This can only mean one thing, the season of goblins and ghouls has arrived! The sound of moms everywhere frantically googling the year’s hottest costumes before they sell out can be heard from miles.
Once you hit the Amazon prime button ladies, we have the cutest project to hype your kids up for the Holiday, as if it’s really needed. A Halloween countdown calendar is just what your blank wall or fireplace mantle has been asking for this season. It solves a myriad of problems for us moms. One, it keeps our kids from asking 150 times a day how long until Halloween. Two, it will be the cutest addition to the seasonal decor. Three, it builds up everyone’s sugar tolerance until the big day!
What you will need:
- Black coin envelopes (we ordered ours from Amazon)
- White paint pen or chalk marker
- Googly Eyes
- Construction Paper
- Elmer’s Glue
**Note: this calendar also lends itself to being stuffed with fun little coupons or activities rather than candy. For me, in my home, I would get thrown out in the yard for not supplying at least some sweethearts. But if you can get away with it, by all means, keep the sugar at bay for the next 31 days!! 🙂
How to complete:
Starting with your small envelopes, begin writing with the white pen or chalk marker 1 through 31. If handwriting is not your deal, white stickers would be perfect.
In order to make sure the numbers were relatively the same size, I lined up the envelopes next to one another rather than writing individually.
Next, is the fun part. This would be a great time to have the kids help. Grab the construction paper, and cut little jagged edges for monster hair. With the excess triangles that are left from the cuts, use them to make jack-o-lantern eyes. And finally, glue on some googly eyes. I chose to not decorate every envelope, just to keep a more clean and simple look, but by all means let your creative juices flow!
Once all glue has dried, take a piece of string or twine and swag across desired area. Using small, white clothespins, hang each card along the twine.
I am choosing to place a few pieces of candy in every morning rather than stuffing them all at once. I know my kids, and if I stuff them all at once I’ll catch them after a few quiet minutes in a candy coma after eating 31 days of sugar filled goodness.
Once hung, accessorize with some spiders and you have a cute, simple and modern Halloween countdown calendar. You are set for the season momma. Now go enjoy your pumpkin spice latte!
