Letterboards are essentially the new modern version of the chalkboard. No need to practice perfect chalk writing or have something commissioned. With letterboards you can have a piece that changes with the day or season. From inspirational quotes, funny sayings, daily menu, and even as a way to mark special occasions or milestones the possibilities are truly endless with one.
Since letterboards are life, it’s only appropriate to show you all of the adorable ways you can use this versatile little puppy. After this list, you will want one in every room of your house and for every birthday, holiday or significant event. Trust us.
Incorporating letterboards in to your home decor.
In the living/family room as a statement piece
The family or living room is the perfect place for a statement letterboard. Use a favorite saying, display your family monogram, and change them out as your interests evolve. We love them alone but also mixed in amongst a gallery wall of childhood pictures or favorite artwork.
In the kitchen/coffee bar area
Being a mom, this is my personal favorite…because we all survive on caffeine right? The kitchen is another great place for a fun, out of the box display. Use it to write out your weekly menu, remind yourself of significant events, or to give you a needed chuckle when everyone is grumpy in the morning.
In the master bath
This one is pretty much everything. One, because Beyonce, duh. And two, it’s an unexpected place to display a letterboard. Accessorize with beautiful beauty products and jewelry, and the counter display is complete.
In a nursery or child’s room
This is probably the most popular way of incorporating letterboards in to home decor. It completes a gallery wall, while adding interest and dimension. Begin with an inspirational quote to welcome home a newborn, and change out as the baby develops. During the toddler years, we are guessing the quote will be a little more sarcastic and a little less sweet. It’s mom’s way of counteracting tantrums. Or maybe that’s just us 🙂
Using letterboards for special occasions and milestone memories.
Monthly baby pictures
Every new mother has seen the stickers placed on the baby’s onsie used to document and signify monthly growth during a baby’s first year of life. Why not use a letterboard to do the same!?! Use larger letters for a bold statement. Smaller letters are perfect for documenting milestones within the board as well as the monthly marker. Note how the baby grew that month. From new teeth, to rolling over. The pictures will be priceless memories for years to come.
I recently used a letterboard for my son’s fifth birthday party where it was all about fishing. He loved holding it up and showing it off. I also plan to use it for his first day of Kindergarten that is approaching all to fast. Cue the ugly cry.
I’ve personally used these for every big and little party I’ve hosted. It was a huge hit as a welcome sign at a recent bridal shower. And how perfect for the actual wedding itself? Use to welcome guests, signify the signature drink of the night or simply have a message of “eat, drink and be married.”
Since letterboards are so versatile, change it out at every season. We staged one for mother’s day amongst all of the beautiful things we were giving to our mothers. Print out this image, use the back for writing a sweet note and you even have the greeting card!
For Halloween a simple message of “boo” on a black board would be oh-so-perfect. I can’t wait to include my favorite “Elf” movie quote for Christmas.
I could go on and on and on….but I’ll stop here for now. If it’s not obvious by now, we think letterboards belong in every home! Get one or visit our tutorial to make your own. It needs to happen!
Happy making and decorating!
