Thanksgiving is tomorrow! Not sure how that happened so quickly?!? It feels as if Halloween was just yesterday, so if you are anything like us, the preparation for turkey day is slightly…delayed. Which means today will be filled with grocery shopping, shoving all of our junk in to the nearest closet (aka out of plain sight from relatives), food prepping and table setting.
With all the hype involved in the preparation, it’s easy to forget about our little ones who are just as excited to celebrate. So we are providing some easy and quick ways to make them feel the love tomorrow (just in the nick of time of course, because we are all busy moms and who has time to think about this before today :).
Set a Fun Kids Table
Often times, being sent to the “kids table” feels less than welcoming for our little ones. My son has been known to comment things such as, “but the mommy and daddy table is more fun!” or “the kids table is boring!” Well, not this year! By doing a few small things to set their table apart from the rest, they will be begging to grab a seat.
If you have a kid sized table, this makes the decor so much cuter! First, I made a runner with white paper for the kids to draw on while they eat. I then gave them their own “placemat” made out of butcher paper, using a chalk pen to outline where the plate, fork, spoon and cup will reside…and of course labeled with each kiddo’s name. The adorable plates were in the dollar bin of Target, score!
To make them feel extra special, I glued on a funny turkey face to a lunch sack and filled with little cars for them to play with (and of course sweets!).
A fun tradition I intend on starting this year is the “What are you thankful for?” planter. Meant to be their “centerpiece”, I asked them what they are thankful for and wrote in different spots around the pot. Pizza, family and Rescue Bots were s0me of the answers. Pretty solid if you ask me. Each year you can add the new answers, and smile at the previous years’ responses.
Enjoy the holiday everyone! We are thankful for all of you that have made the last six months for The Makery KC so very special. Snuggle those babies, and tell those you hold dear how much you love them. We know we will.
